About the Team:
As a Senior Software Engineer in the Operations, Analytics and Research (OAR) at Walmart, you will play a pivotal role in designing, building, and maintaining scalable operational solutions that enhance the reliability and efficiency of Walmart's omnichannel ecosystem. We are seeking engineers with expertise in AI-driven solutions, intelligent automation, operational analytics, and workflow optimization, combined with strong software engineering skills and a passion for solving complex operational challenges. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to develop resilient, scalable, and maintainable platforms that automate operational processes, improve observability, accelerate issue resolution, and enable data-driven decision-making across multiple fulfillment and commerce platforms.
What you’ll do
Diagnose and resolve complex production issues involving distributed systems.
Develop reusable platform components, frameworks, and APIs to improve engineering productivity across teams.
Collaborate closely with product managers, architects, customer teams, and partner engineering organizations to deliver end-to-end solutions.
Drive architecture, design, implementation, and operational readiness of platform capabilities from concept to production.
Improve platform scalability, reliability, observability, and cost efficiency through performance optimizations and architectural enhancements.
Drive engineering best practices around testing, automation, deployment, monitoring, and production readiness.
Own services running in production, including on-call support, incident response, root cause analysis, and continuous reliability improvements.
Build Agentic AI services (planning, tool usage, retrieval, and feedback loops) and integrate them with internal systems and APIs.
What you’ll bring
6+ years of software engineering experience building large-scale distributed systems.
Strong programming experience in Java, Python.
Strong foundation in data structures, concurrency, and system design.
Experience with distributed stream processing frameworks such as Kafka and Flink.
Strong understanding of distributed systems concepts with experience designing cloud-native microservices and REST APIs.
Production experience building AI-powered applications using Large Language Models (LLMs), Agentic AI frameworks (e.g., LangGraph-style planners, tool-use patterns, retrieval, and memory components), Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), and workflow orchestration.
Experience with vector databases (e.g., Milvus, pgvector) and feature stores.
Hands-on experience with Kubernetes, Docker, and cloud platforms.
Experience building highly available production systems with strong observability using metrics, dashboards, logging, and alerting.
Strong debugging and performance tuning skills for distributed applications.
Excellent communication skills with the ability to work across multiple engineering organizations and customer teams.
Demonstrated ownership mindset with experience driving projects independently from design through production rollout.
