Senior Software Engineer

Microsoft Microsoft · Big Tech · Redmond, WA +2 · Software Engineering

Senior Software Engineer to lead the design and development of AI threat detection and defense systems for Microsoft's Copilot offerings. This role focuses on protecting AI-powered systems from emerging threats like prompt injection and data exfiltration, involving threat identification, defense development, and production deployment. The engineer will work at the intersection of security, AI, and large-scale distributed systems to ensure safe and responsible AI adoption.

What you'd actually do

  1. Lead the design and implementation of AI threat detection systems that identify and mitigate threats such as prompt injection, memory poisoning, data exfiltration, agentic workflow abuse, and emerging adversarial attacks.
  2. Drive the development of security services, classifiers, evaluation frameworks, telemetry pipelines, and risk assessment systems used to measure and improve Copilot security posture.
  3. Conduct threat modeling exercises and identify security gaps across AI workflows, tools, orchestration layers, and platform integrations.
  4. Partner with product teams to translate security requirements into scalable engineering solutions and platform capabilities.
  5. Investigate emerging attack techniques and develop durable defenses that can be adopted across multiple Copilot experiences.
