Shield AI Shield AI · Defense · Washington, DC +3 · Flight System Integration

Shield AI is a defense-tech company developing autonomy solutions for unmanned aircraft. This role focuses on integrating and developing mission behaviors, control systems, multi-agent coordination, and contingency management for autonomous pilot systems, from simulation to live flight testing. The engineer will provide technical leadership, mentor teammates, and influence architecture, working closely with various teams and customer stakeholders to deliver mission-ready software for defense customers.

  1. develop new autonomy capabilities — including mission behaviors, platform-specific control (including VTOL transitions), multi-agent coordination, contingencies, and executive autonomy
  2. own major features from software-in-the-loop, to hardware-in-the-loop, to vehicle-in-the-loop, to live flight test
  3. partner closely with the Aircraft team, Autonomy Capabilities, Perception, GCS, feature crews, and customer stakeholders to deliver mission-ready autonomy software and solve complex integration challenges
  4. provide technical leadership across major capabilities, mentor teammates, influence architecture and integration strategy, and help drive successful field deployments for both mature and emerging expeditionary platforms
