The Developer Transformation (DevT) organization leverages AI to supercharge engineering productivity and job satisfaction by automating away tedious tasks. Within DevT, the Self-Maintaining Codebase (SMC) organization aims to build a future where Google's codebase is intelligently self-maintaining, so that we can turbocharge innovation. By automating Google3 maintenance through agentic solutions, we aim to drive the cost of code evolution and technical debt to zero. This will free developers from the increasing tax of legacy code, allowing them to focus on delivering new products and features while radically accelerating modernization efforts and innovation.
The Core team builds the technical foundation behind Google’s flagship products. We are owners and advocates for the underlying design elements, developer platforms, product components, and infrastructure at Google. These are the essential building blocks for excellent, safe, and coherent experiences for our users and drive the pace of innovation for every developer. We look across Google’s products to build central solutions, break down technical barriers and strengthen existing systems. As the Core team, we have a mandate and a unique opportunity to impact important technical decisions across the company.
Responsibilities
- Deliver innovative agentic solutions to automate code maintenance. Work on expanding the solution space, developing SMC evaluation frameworks, or accelerating SMC through deep technical connections with our partner teams in Bengaluru.
- Design, develop, and test agentic software solutions that automate tedious maintenance tasks within Google3.
- Partner with distributed teams across EMEA and the US, as well as local Bengaluru partners like the Kythe team, to deliver high-impact solutions.
Qualifications
Minimum qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.
- 5 years of experience with software development in one or more programming languages.
- 3 years of experience testing, maintaining, or launching software products, and 1 year of experience with software design and architecture.
- 1 year of experience with Agentic AI.
Preferred qualifications:
- Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science or a related technical field.
- 5 years of experience with data structures and algorithms.
- 1 year of experience in a technical leadership role.
- Experience in delivering high-quality code and leading design efforts for complex features.
