Senior Software Engineer to build scalable ingestion pipelines and indexing solutions for enterprise data within M365, integrated with LLMs to power Copilot. The role focuses on creating a semantic index for grounding data, ensuring low-latency access and interactive freshness at exabyte scale.

What you'd actually do

  1. Participate in the development of the Semantic Fabric, a cutting-edge technology delivering semantic indexing and search experiences across Microsoft Office 365.
  2. Build scalable, high-performance software services over large datasets with low latency and high availability.
  3. Ensure the platform adheres to Microsoft’s strict data privacy and compliance standards.
  4. Participate in design, development, testing, deployment, and maintenance of software solutions to meet the functional and non-functional requirements of the Semantic Fabric.
  5. Collaborate with team members and other engineering teams to ensure the successful integration of individual components into the larger system.

Skills

Required

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 4+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python

  • Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python

  • Senior/Lead Engineer professional software development experience with at least two of the following C#/C++/Java, ASP.NET, and RUST
  • Hands on experience with distributed systems and services in the cloud.
  • Knowledge of functional programming principles, including immutability and type safety.
  • Proven ability to tackle complex technical issues, proper research and design and high-quality implementations.
  • Great written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Solid pattern matching against proven software patterns (such as Mediator, Strategy, Middleware).
  • Track record of delivering impact at scale.
  • Search, information retrieval systems.
  • Applications of LLM and/or vector indexes (such as DiskANN)
  • Designing, developing and shipping high quality software products, systems and services.
  • Working collaboratively in a team: ability to communicate ideas clearly and drive problems to efficient resolution.
