Senior Software Engineer - Mercury Command

Mercury Mercury · Fintech · Remote · Software Engineering

Senior Software Engineer at Mercury, focused on evolving and extending Mercury Command, an LLM-powered financial assistant. The role involves designing and shipping new capabilities, building agentic workflows, owning the LLM layer (prompt architecture, model behavior tuning), and developing the eval harness for quality assurance. Requires significant experience in scaling LLM applications, designing agentic systems, and understanding production LLM tradeoffs.

What you'd actually do

  1. Design and ship new Command skills, the domain-specific instruction sets that teach the model how to handle workflows like sending money, managing invoices, and understanding cash flow
  2. Design and build agentic workflows in Command, defining the architecture for how multi-step agent interactions should work as we extend what the product can do on a customer's behalf
  3. Own the LLM layer
  4. Write and expand Command's eval harness, adding cases that cover new capabilities and scoring rubrics that detect regressions before users do
  5. Own the reliability and quality of what you ship, from initial design through post-launch monitoring

Skills

Required

  • 7 or more years of software engineering experience
  • deep technical expertise building and scaling LLM-powered applications in production
  • experience designing agentic systems
  • experience building eval infrastructure
  • understanding of LLM deployment tradeoffs (latency, cost, compliance)
  • TypeScript
  • Haskell

Nice to have

  • mentoring engineers
  • raising the technical bar of their team
