As a Senior Staff Software Engineer in the BigQuery Platform team, you will be responsible for leading the technical directions, designs, and implementation that advance reliable, secure multi-tenant infrastructure for BigQuery. You will use fundamental design principles to build strong isolation and resource governance guarantees, as a strategic differentiator for BigQuery driving Google Cloud growth.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $262,000-$365,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities
- Design and vet complex system architectures, breaking ambiguous problems into solvable components.
- Lead evolution of BigQuery multi-tenant infrastructure, towards stronger isolation, resource governance and security.
- Develop product or system code, establish high technical standards for quality, reliability and performance.
- Build consensus and influence technical strategy through collaboration with leadership.
- Mentor team members on advanced design techniques and engineering excellence.
Qualifications
Minimum qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
- 8 years of experience programming in C++.
- 5 years of experience with design and architecture; and testing/launching software products.
- Experience with large-scale distributed, multi-tenant systems (e.g., cloud services/runtimes).
- Experience in designing, developing performance intensive systems, with customer-aware metrics and validations.
Preferred qualifications:
- Master’s degree or PhD in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field.
- 8 years of experience with data structures and algorithms.
- 5 years of experience in a technical leadership role leading project teams and setting technical direction.
- 3 years of experience working in a complex, matrixed organization involving cross-functional, or cross-business projects.
- Technical leadership experience leading software engineers/tech lead, collaborate with other senior staff software engineers, and engineering managers.
