Senior Staff Wifi Connectivity Engineer

Ford Ford · Auto · Palo Alto, CA +1 · PD Operations and Quality

Senior Staff WiFi Connectivity Engineer responsible for the WiFi stack within Ford's Software Defined Vehicle (SDV) architecture, focusing on stability, performance, and certification of high-bandwidth wireless projection services like Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. This role involves kernel-level driver tuning, complex concurrency management, defining the WiFi technical roadmap, and architecting solutions in virtualized environments.

What you'd actually do

  1. Take full ownership of WiFi performance for Wireless CarPlay and Android Auto. Optimize the stack for low-latency, high-throughput video streaming and jitter-free audio, ensuring a seamless user experience.
  2. Lead the connectivity-side validation for Apple and Google certification. Ensure the WiFi subsystem meets all KPIs regarding connection setup time, throughput stability, and multi-protocol handling required for official projection approval.
  3. Architect and implement solutions for complex WiFi use cases, including Multi-Role/Multi-Channel (MCC/SCC) concurrency.
  4. Define the long-term roadmap for WiFi at Ford. Take accountability for the end-to-end software lifecycle, from silicon selection to production-ready drivers.
  5. Design and implement WiFi drivers and firmware integrations optimized for hypervisor-based architectures (Xen/KVM), ensuring robust resource sharing between Linux Dom0 and Android Guest VMs.
