Senior System Architect, Hardware Architecture

Amazon Amazon · Big Tech · Sunnyvale, CA · Hardware Development

Senior System Architect role at Amazon Devices, focusing on defining system architecture for consumer electronics products like Echo and FireTV. Responsibilities include interpreting product requirements, making key design decisions (SoC, compute architecture), tracking market trends, defining roadmaps, and working with silicon vendors. The role requires a hands-on engineer with breadth and depth in areas like computer architecture, SoC design, or applied machine learning, and involves leading cross-functional teams throughout the product development lifecycle. Basic qualifications include a Bachelor's degree in CS/CE/EE and 10+ years of experience or a PhD, with a background in SoC/Silicon engineering, computer architecture, ML, or embedded software. Preferred qualifications include a Master's/PhD, strong understanding of heterogeneous SoC architectures, and expertise in specific technical areas.

What you'd actually do

  1. defining the system architecture for consumer products such as Echo, FireTV and a range of new concepts not yet announced.
  2. Serve as the lead technical point of contact that the product management and business teams rely on to interpret and clarify the product concept's desired user experience and requirements.
  3. define system architecture that can meet product requirements and work closely with the business team to understand and clarify requirements and user experience tradeoffs.
  4. drive key design decisions such as edge-cloud compute partition, device SoC selection, compute architecture (CPU, DSP, GPU and ML accelerators), and other system component selections (chipsets, memory, storage).
  5. document the decisions in a system architecture specification document that will provide relevant design guidance for the engineering team.
