Senior System Safety Engineer

RTX is seeking a Senior System Safety Engineer to develop and implement MIL-STD-882E compliant system safety programs. This role involves performing system safety tasks and analyses, coordinating with customer safety representatives, and ensuring safety considerations are integrated into design and architecture across development teams. The engineer will collaborate with various disciplines, manage working groups, and prepare reports on safety analyses. A U.S. government issued Secret security clearance is required.

What you'd actually do

  1. Developing and implementing one or more MIL-STD-882E compliant system safety programs
  2. Performing MIL-STD-882E System Safety Program tasks and analyses, or customer’s approved equivalent
  3. Coordinating with customer safety representatives, applying methods, standards, and techniques to provide clarification of system requirements to software, hardware, and test personnel to ensure design and architecture considerations are appropriately allocated to the system and horizontally integrated across the development teams.
  4. Coordinating with customer safety representatives to gain safety approval from appropriate Safety Review Board authorities
  5. Working across all integrated product teams and lines to properly eliminate hazards or provide effective controls.

Skills

Required

  • Bachelor’s in science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM preferred)
  • minimum of 5 years of prior relevant experience
  • Experience with system safety

Nice to have

  • Experience developing and implementing MIL-STD-882E System Safety Program tasks and analyses, involving management (task series 100), analysis (task series 200), evaluation (task series 300), and verification (task series 400). This includes hardware and software safety related tasks.
  • Experience with DoD System Safety Programs e.g. MIL-STD-882 / DO-178
  • Experience preparing internal and customer reports describing various analyses relevant to the System Safety program.
  • Experience reviewing software code and requirements for safety considerations.
  • Experience collaborating across multiple disciplines.
  • Experience interfacing with other engineering functions: Systems Engineering, Software or Firmware Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Hardware Engineering.
  • Experience managing Working Groups.
  • Experience with risk assessment concepts, such as those in MIL-STD 882E.
  • Experience writing technical reports and presentations.
  • Active and transferrable final U.S. government issued Secret security clearance.
