Senior System Safety Engineer, Aircraft Systems

This role is for a Senior System Safety Engineer focused on aircraft systems within the defense technology sector. The engineer will develop and implement system safety program plans, conduct safety analyses (FHA, FTA, etc.), develop safety requirements, manage hazards and risks, and ensure compliance with military and industry safety standards. The role involves close collaboration with engineering teams throughout the product development lifecycle, from concept to customer delivery, with a strong emphasis on safety-critical hardware and software systems.

What you'd actually do

  1. Develop and implement tailored System Safety program plans aligned with MIL-STD-882E and the needs of Anduril & its customers.
  2. Conduct and review complex safety analyses, including FHA (Functional Hazard Analysis), System/Subsystem Hazard Analysis, System of Systems Hazard Analysis, Environmental Hazard Analysis, Operating and Support Hazard Analysis, Health Hazard Analysis, Fault Tree Analysis and SCFTA (Safety Critical Functional Thread Analysis)
  3. Develop and document a Safety Assessment Report (SAR)
  4. Develop safety requirements and collaborate with design teams to implement safety solutions
  5. Identify & document hazards & risks for your program(s), manage hazard tracking databases, and ensure proper risk mitigation strategies are in place

Skills

Required

  • Minimum of 5 years Industry Experience as a System Safety Engineer or equivalent engineering background
  • B.S. Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Systems Engineering, or equivalent technical discipline
  • Experience with safety-critical hardware & software systems in the defense or aerospace industry, with a preference for Weapon Systems, Aircraft, UAS or Rotorcraft
  • Extensive knowledge of MIL-STD-882E, MIL-STD 516C airworthiness, AC-17-01, and other relevant safety standards
  • Strong background in safety analysis techniques, including FTA, FHA, SCFTA, and FMECA
  • Experience with function and requirements decomposition for Safety
  • Test Plan Requirements experience for Safety
  • Failure investigation/analysis experience with proven track record of solving problems and preventing reoccurrence
  • Hazard Evaluation, management, and mitigation action liaising experience
  • Design Review Experience (PDR, CDR, FRR, MRR) and confident in presentation skills across all levels of leadership
  • Strong analytical/problem-solving skills and excellent communication skills with the ability to collaborate cross-functionally.
  • Eligibility to obtain/maintain a Secret Clearance

  • M.S. Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Systems Engineering, or equivalent technical discipline
  • Experience with ARP-4754, ARP-4761, DO-178C, DO-254, JSSSEH, MIL-STD 882E, MIL-STD-810, MIL-STD-516C, MIL-STD-461, AC-17-01
