Sentinel Sr Principal Industrial Engineer - 18595

Northrop Grumman Northrop Grumman · Aerospace · Roy, UT +1 · Material/Process

Northrop Grumman is seeking a Sr Principal Industrial Engineer to support Production Proposal Estimating for Strategic Deterrence Division programs, focusing on Sentinel. The role involves partnering with various departments to build credible production proposals by combining estimating rigor with modern analytics, using historical data to improve BOEs and production planning. Responsibilities include developing BOEs, labor/material estimates, staffing plans, capacity assessments, and using data tools to analyze historical actuals and support estimate quality. The position requires a Bachelor's degree in a relevant field with significant experience, an active DoD security clearance, and experience in industrial engineering, manufacturing operations, or proposal estimating within aerospace/defense.

What you'd actually do

  1. Develop BOEs, labor and material estimates, staffing plans, capacity assessments, build-rate models, and schedule-aligned manufacturing assumptions for SDS proposals and program changes.
  2. Apply bottom-up, parametric, analogous, and actuals-based estimating methods, including improvement curves, trend analysis, CERs, confidence factors, and discrete task assessments.
  3. Translate statements of work, manufacturing concepts, WBS elements, and schedule requirements into time-phased proposal inputs and executable production plans.
  4. Use Excel and data tools to analyze historical actuals, touch labor, repair and rework, charging, and staffing data to support estimate quality, logic checks, and auditability.
  5. Support proposal reviews, fact-finding, management reviews, and negotiations with clear rationale, assumptions, and traceable source data.

Skills

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Technology, Operations Research, Data Analytics, Systems Engineering, or related technical field with 8 years of relevant experience; 6 with a Master's degree; or 4 with a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD).
  • Active Department of Defense (DoD) security clearance.
  • Experience in industrial engineering, manufacturing operations, production planning, or proposal estimating in aerospace, defense, or complex manufacturing.
  • Experience developing bases of estimate, labor estimates, staffing plans, capacity models, or proposal inputs.
  • Strong Excel modeling, presentation, and written communication skills.
  • Working knowledge of manufacturing flow, production scheduling, capacity, and how shop floor execution interfaces with supply chain and quality.

Nice to have

  • Experience with basis of estimate writing, major proposal support, fact-finding, negotiations, or audit-compliant estimating.
  • Experience with touch labor projections, improvement curves, cost estimating relationship development, risk assessment, fixed-variable analysis, or discrete statement of work task estimating.
  • Experience using Microsoft Power BI, Tableau, Structured Query Language (SQL), Python, SAP, Cobra, Workday, or manufacturing execution systems (MES).
  • Ability to read blueprints or schematics and work across mechanical or electrical production environments
