Server Architect

Intel Intel · Semiconductors · California, Santa Clara, United States +4

This role focuses on developing and driving end-to-end architectural specifications for CPUs, influencing technical direction, and ensuring leadership in performance, power efficiency, and scalability. Responsibilities include defining hardware features, evaluating tradeoffs, conceptualizing architectural innovations, developing new instructions, modeling performance and power, creating tests and simulations, and collaborating with cross-functional teams.

What you'd actually do

  1. Drive the development of CPU architecture specifications, including hardware feature requirements and hardware-software interoperability throughout the product lifecycle.
  2. Define and evaluate feasibility tradeoffs for performance, power, frequency, area, and features to meet CPU requirements across multiple segments.
  3. Conceptualize, invent, and specify architectural and microarchitecture features that deliver optimized CPU requirements for varying use cases.
  4. Develop and document new instructions to support emerging use cases, improve existing ones, and extend the instruction set architecture (ISA).
  5. Model CPU performance and power, analyze current CPU bottlenecks, and explore novel approaches for future workloads.

Skills

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field, and 12+ years of relevant experience; or Master's degree and 8+ years of relevant experience; or PhD and 6+ years of relevant experience.
  • CPU architecture definition and feature specification
  • performance and power modeling, bottleneck analysis, and optimization for CPU workloads
  • instruction set architecture (ISA) development and implementation
  • testing and simulation tools, advanced statistical modeling, and data-driven predictions
  • experimental proof-of-concept solutions and driving end-to-end execution of architectural designs

Nice to have

  • Track record of influencing technical strategy and leading cross-functional teams to achieve organizational goals.
  • Experience mentoring and developing technical leaders and fostering innovation within a team or organization.
  • Exceptional communication skills and the ability to challenge, inspire, and lead diverse groups.
  • Familiarity with industry trends and the ability to align technical vision with market demands to maintain leadership in CPU performance, power optimization, and scalability.
