This role is for a Software Development Manager on the AWS Identity team, focusing on secure identity, access, and resource management for AWS customers. The team leverages machine learning and automated reasoning for access control and aims to build scalable, core technologies for authentication and authorization. The role involves managing and growing an engineering team, driving technical design, and delivering high-performing, reliable systems in a cloud computing environment.

What you'd actually do

  1. Develop and execute project plans and delivery commitments; handle the day-to-day activities of the engineering team within an agile environment.
  2. Staffing, mentoring, and growing a best-of-class engineering team.
  3. Operations of the service as a critical system.
  4. Work closely with the engineers to architect and develop the best technical design and approach. Be a hands-on technical leader and contributor.
  5. Report on status of development, quality, operations, and system performance to management.

Skills

Required

  • 3+ years of engineering team management experience
  • 7+ years of working directly within engineering teams experience
  • 3+ years of designing or architecting (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
  • 8+ years of leading the definition and development of multi tier web services experience
  • Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations
  • Experience partnering with product or program management teams

Nice to have

  • Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior leadership to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy
  • Experience in recruiting, hiring, mentoring/coaching and managing teams of Software Engineers to improve their skills, and make them more effective, product software engineers
