We are seeking a high-impact Software Engineer to join our mission in building next-generation, AI-powered infrastructure supporting Continuous Integration (CI) systems for Android, Chrome, and ChromeOS.
In this role, you will shape the foundation of the developer experience by designing, implementing, and deploying highly scalable and reliable systems capable of handling the massive build and test loads required by these major platforms. In the agentic coding era, your work to build and deploy an uncompromising CI system will be a foundational requirement to meet our business goals. This role provides you with the unique opportunity to be a founding member of a growing CI center of excellence in Tokyo, working at the heart of Android's CI infrastructure to establish a strong collaboration model with our global counterparts.
Responsibilities
- Build components for the next generation of foundational CI services, participating in architectural design and maintaining common infrastructure that harmonizes workflows across Android, Chrome, and ChromeOS.
- Investigate and help eliminate bottlenecks in the developer inner and outer loops, allowing teams to move from code-complete to production safely and rapidly.
- Contribute to the implementation of complex AI-powered solutions, utilizing Agentic AI to streamline operational workflows and enhance system reliability.
- Partner effectively with global product teams and infrastructure peers to ensure seamless integration and alignment across multiple regions.
- Support the scalability and high-availability of business-critical infrastructure by implementing advanced monitoring and performance tuning to ensure pipelines remain performant. Implement and uphold modern supply chain security standards, protecting the integrity of the build and release artifacts for billions of users.
Qualifications
Minimum qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
- 2 years of experience in software development in one or more programming languages.
- 1 year of experience in system design.
- 1 year of experience with developing large-scale infrastructure, distributed systems or networks, or experience with compute technologies, storage or hardware architecture.
- Experience building backend systems or CI/CD pipelines.
Preferred qualifications:
- 2 years of experience with data structures and algorithms in either an academic or industry setting.
- Experience with AI accelerated development or in the applied AI space.
- Proficiency in Python, Java, Kotlin, or Go, alongside experience with distributed computing or build systems (e.g., Bazel, Soong).
- Familiarity with the unique build/test requirements of large-scale monorepos or complex OS-level projects (e.g., Android/Chromium).
- Ability to debug complex, intermittent system failures in distributed environments and implement long-term structural fixes.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to influence engineering teams across different time zones.
