Software Engineer, API Multicloud

OpenAI OpenAI · AI Frontier · San Francisco, CA · Core Product & Platform

Software Engineer role focused on extending OpenAI's API platform into cloud environments (e.g., AWS) by building backend services, APIs, and infrastructure for cloud-hosted AI capabilities, including agentic workloads. This involves adapting first-party deployments, ensuring cloud-native operation, and partnering with cloud providers and internal teams.

What you'd actually do

  1. Build backend and infrastructure systems that extend OpenAI’s API platform into cloud-native environments, like AWS.
  2. Design and ship cloud-contained products that allow customers to use OpenAI capabilities while keeping workloads and data within cloud environments.
  3. Help stand up cloud-hosted Codex experiences powered by the OpenAI Responses API.
  4. Build the infrastructure and runtime abstractions for a stateful, cloud-optimized agentic platform.
  5. Partner closely with external cloud partners as well as internal teams across Codex, Research, and Safety Systems to translate emerging capabilities into production-ready systems.
