Software Engineer, Credit Risk Platform

Chime Chime · Fintech · San Francisco, CA · Lending Engineering

Software Engineer role focused on building backend services and internal tools for a Credit Risk Platform within a fintech company. The role involves developing reusable platform primitives for new credit products, integrating third-party data, and ensuring systems are reliable, observable, and auditable. Collaboration with Credit Risk, Product, Analytics, and Data Science teams is key.

What you'd actually do

  1. Design, develop, test, and maintain backend services and internal tools that support risk strategy across multiple products (e.g., eligibility, limits, exposure tracking, policy enforcement)
  2. Contribute to reusable platform primitives that make it faster and safer to launch new credit products without duplicating risk decisioning and controls
  3. Build and improve workflows that enable Credit Risk teams to adjust strategies (rules, thresholds, segmentation) with appropriate guardrails and review processes
  4. Integrate third-party data sources used in decisioning and monitoring, including implementing data validation, error handling, and resilience to vendor changes
  5. Add instrumentation, dashboards, and alerts for key risk and loss signals, and participate in on-call/incident response as part of a supportive team rotation
