This role is for a Software Engineer III on the Platforms Infrastructure Engineering team at Google. The primary focus is on developing and enhancing large-scale infrastructure, distributed systems, and compute technologies that support Google's AI and global services. The role involves writing product or system development code, participating in design reviews, code reviews, contributing to documentation, and triaging/debugging system issues. While the team works closely with AI model development, the core responsibilities are in infrastructure engineering rather than direct AI/ML model building.

What you'd actually do

  1. Write product or system development code.
  2. Participate in, or lead design reviews with peers and stakeholders to decide amongst available technologies.
  3. Review code developed by other developers and provide feedback to ensure best practices (e.g., style guidelines, checking code in, accuracy, testability, and efficiency).
  4. Contribute to existing documentation or educational content and adapt content based on product/program updates and user feedback.
  5. Triage product or system issues and debug/track/resolve by analyzing the sources of issues and the impact on hardware, network, or service operations and quality.

Skills

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 2 years of experience programming in C++, Python, or Go.
  • 2 years of experience with developing large-scale infrastructure, distributed systems or networks, or experience with compute technologies, storage or hardware architecture.

Nice to have

  • Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science or related technical fields.
  • 2 years of experience with performance, large scale systems data analysis, visualization tools, or debugging.
  • 2 years of experience with data structures or algorithms in either an academic or industry setting.
  • Experience developing accessible technologies.
  • Proficiency in code and system health, diagnosis and resolution, and software test engineering.
