Software Engineer Manager Ii, Slicer

Google Google · Big Tech · Kirkland, WA +1

Manage a team of engineers to build and optimize Slicer, Google's autosharder for partitioning application state over compute infrastructure. This foundational infrastructure handles billions of requests per second and is critical for many Google services and Cloud products. The role involves technical leadership, project management, product strategy, and people management.

What you'd actually do

  1. Identify, scope, and solve broad and ambiguous challenges that impact sharding and load-balancing at Google. Turn these challenges into strategic opportunities and actionable plans.
  2. Work closely with team members to deliver improvements to Slicer as a product and Slicer's infrastructure (from scoping to full production landing).
  3. Drive the existing long-term technical goal, strategy, and roadmap for Slicer. Collaborate with technical leads in Slicer and the wider Caching organization to evolve the technical goal as necessary.
  4. Work with customer teams across multiple product areas to understand requirements for sliced services and applications.
  5. Hire, coach, and mentor engineers to design and implement highly available, scalable, and reliable services.
