Software Technical Program Manager, Functional and Systems Safety

Nuro Nuro · Robotics · Mountain View, CA · Software TPM

This role is for a Software Technical Program Manager focused on Functional and Systems Safety for Nuro's self-driving technology. The TPM will own safety program execution across hardware, embedded software, and controls, ensuring compliance with standards like ISO 26262 and driving safety artifacts from concept to validation. The role requires experience in systems engineering, safety engineering, or TPM in automotive/AV/robotics, with familiarity with ISO 26262 processes and cross-disciplinary collaboration.

What you'd actually do

  1. Lead end-to-end program execution for functional safety workstreams, coordinating across Controls, HW, and Embedded SW teams.
  2. Drive the development, review, and maintenance of Functional Safety Requirements (FSRs) and Technical Safety Requirements (TSRs) in alignment with ISO 26262.
  3. Partner with integration and validation teams to define safety-relevant test strategies for platform-level and system-level verification.
  4. Serve as the connective tissue between Safety, Controls, HW, and Embedded SW — translating safety requirements into engineering deliverables and vice versa.
  5. Own tracking and closure of safety-related action items, open points, and audit findings across the vehicle platform.

Skills

Required

  • 4–6 years of experience in systems engineering, safety engineering, or technical program management in automotive, AV, robotics, or adjacent domains.
  • Hands-on familiarity with ISO 26262 processes and work products (FSR, TSR, HARA, FMEA, safety plans, etc.).
  • Experience working across at least two of: Controls, Hardware, or Embedded Software disciplines.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage complex, multi-team programs with competing priorities and tight timelines.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; able to synthesize technical complexity for mixed audiences.

Nice to have

  • Experience with SOTIF (ISO 21448) or other complementary safety standards (IEC 61508, UL 4600).
  • Familiarity with safety tooling (e.g., PTC Integrity, Jama Connect, DOORS, or similar requirements management tools).
  • Background in hardware/software integration testing, HIL/SIL validation, or vehicle-level testing.
  • TÜV Functional Safety Engineer certification or equivalent is a plus.
