This role is a Specialty Engineering Manager at Northrop Grumman, responsible for functional management of a department of 15 individuals supporting various engineering disciplines for space and ground systems. The role involves resource deployment, process maintenance, external interface fostering, organizational strategy development, and mentoring. It requires technical understanding in specialty engineering disciplines, project management, budget management, and interfacing with multiple other engineering and program management functions. The position also involves direct program support.

What you'd actually do

  1. responsible for the functional management of our Specialty Engineering Department, comprised of 15 individuals supporting reliability, safety, contamination, radiation hardness & survivability, parts, materials, & processes (PM&P), and electromagnetic interference/susceptibility (EMI/C) engineering in support of space and ground systems.
  2. responsible for deployment of resources to programs; maintaining department processes; fostering interfaces with external entities; developing and implementing organizational strategy; and the mentoring, performance evaluation, and career development of department members.
  3. The position requires approximately 85% direct program support and 15% for functional management.
  4. The successful applicant will require a technical understanding and experience in one or more of the Specialty Engineering disciplines.
  5. The candidate should have project management experience in a team environment, including budget management.

Skills

Required

  • Bachelor's Degree in Materials Science, Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Metallurgy, Applied Mathematics, or other S.T.E.M. discipline & 8 years of related experience
  • Current & active Clearance: DoD Secret
  • Experience developing and delivering space and ground hardware subsystems/equipment with experience related to one or more specialty engineering disciplines (see above) in support of such delivery
  • 3 years of leadership of project leadership experience
  • Proficiency in at least one of the following disciplines: reliability, safety, contamination, radiation hardness & survivability, parts, materials, & processes (PM&P), electromagnetic interference/susceptibility (EMI/C) engineering
  • Strong interpersonal communication and team building skills

Nice to have

  • Master’s or PhD in Materials Science, Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Metallurgy, Applied Mathematics, or closely related engineering or science discipline, with greater than 7 years’ experience developing and delivering spaceborne radio frequency (RF) or infrared (IR) remote sensing equipment
  • Formal anomaly investigation and troubleshooting experience (FRACAS, RC&CA, FRB)
  • Familiarity with more than one of the following disciplines: reliability, safety, contamination, radiation hardness & survivability, parts, materials, & processes (PM&P), electromagnetic interference/susceptibility (EMI/C) engineering
  • Familiarity with management of capital and processes for the following laboratory types: failure analysis; x-ray radiography; cleanroom assembly and test for hybrid microcircuits
  • Familiarity with design & analysis processes for DOD and/or NASA space programs
  • Current & active Clearances: DoD Top Secret, SCI/SSBI
