Senior Applied Scientist role focused on developing and improving sensing systems for advanced robotics at Amazon scale. What you'd actually do

  1. Design and adapt holistic on-robot sensing solutions for ambiguous problems with fluid requirements
  2. Mentor and develop junior engineers
  3. Work with an interdisciplinary team to execute product designs from concept to production including specification, design, prototyping, validation and testing
  4. Own the detailed design and performance of a sensing system design
  5. Work with the Operations, Manufacturing, Supply Chain and Quality organizations as well as vendors to ensure a smooth transition of concept to product

Skills

Required

  • Ph.D. in computer science, machine learning, engineering, or related fields
  • Experience working in a fast-paced, rapidly changing operations environment
  • Technical leadership in conceptualization, design and development of sensing systems
  • Deep knowledge of sensing and signal processing, estimation, computer vision, or machine learning
  • Knowledge of optics, camera modeling, and real-time imaging technologies
  • Hands-on experience crafting proof-of-concept models and prototypes
  • Thorough understanding and use of principles, theories and concepts of perceptual analysis, as well as ability to apply them to system design
  • Organizational skills and the ability to work well with teams
  • Experience communicating concepts to leadership and writing technical documents
  • Experience evaluating design, performance and tradeoffs of perceptual computing systems
