Sr. Autonomy Data Collection and Prototyping, Vehicle Build and Bring up Engineer

Rivian Rivian · Auto · Palo Alto, CA · Autonomous Driving

This role focuses on the engineering and automation of vehicle build and bring-up processes for data collection fleets, ensuring data integrity for downstream ML consumers. It involves designing automation, electrical checks, and diagnostic workflows, optimizing the build cycle, and validating data quality for autonomy stacks. The role requires proficiency in Python/Bash and automotive diagnostic protocols, with an emphasis on leveraging AI-assisted tools to accelerate script development and automate tasks.

What you'd actually do

  1. Lead the transition of complex build tasks from engineering-only execution to operator-led processes.
  2. Apply Industrial and Process Systems principles to identify bottlenecks in the "Build -> Upfit -> Flash -> Test" cycle, engineering solutions to reduce cycle time while maintaining build integrity.
  3. Own the end-to-end success of HW/SW bring-up for the Data Collection fleet.
  4. Validate that every build meets the rigorous data-logging standards required by downstream consumers.
  5. Lead the physical integration and modification of base vehicles into data collection platforms.
