Sr. Battery Systems Engineer

Rivian Rivian · Auto · Tustin, CA · Mechanical & Electrical Engineering

This role focuses on High Voltage (HV) Battery Pack Systems Engineering, translating vehicle and end-user specifications into pack system requirements. Key responsibilities include leading the decomposition of international regulations (like EU 2023/1542, REACH, ECE R100) into actionable requirements, ensuring conformity through technical documentation and risk assessments, establishing Requirements Verification Traceability (RVT), managing outsourced battery pack programs, owning thermal system requirements, and chairing DFMEA working sessions. The role requires strong systems engineering skills, proficiency with requirements management tools, and experience in the battery or automotive industries.

What you'd actually do

  1. Lead the pack level systems design process to analyze vehicle, powertrain, and end-user specifications to derive pack system requirements.
  2. Lead the process of translating international regulations, including EU 2023/1542 (Battery Passport), EC No 1907/2006 (REACH), and ECE R100, into actionable battery pack and sub-system requirements.
  3. Lead the decomposition of legislative requirements and the creation of associated test cases.
  4. Act as the single point of ownership for requirements used for outsourced battery pack programs.
  5. Own the maintenance and decomposition of thermal system requirements into component-level requirements.
