Joby Aviation is seeking a Sr. CNC Programmer for their R&D Machine Shop. The role involves developing, implementing, and training CNC programming processes for 3, 5-axis, and Lathe machines, primarily using Fusion360. Responsibilities include prototype machining, optimizing machining processes, selecting tooling, performing quality control inspections, and collaborating with engineering and machinist teams. Experience with Haas and Fanuc controllers, GD&T, and various machining techniques is required.

What you'd actually do

  1. Prototype machining via creating and editing CNC programs that support the machining of a wide range of R&D, Aircraft, and Tooling components.
  2. Synchronize and create machining process development & optimization (part setup/fixturing, machining strategy/order of operations, tool selection, speed/feed process parameter selection)
  3. Communicate with Programmers, Machinists, and Team Leaders to identify, select, and procure appropriate tooling for job specific applications (based on part material, geometry, features, tolerances, system rigidity, and equipment capability)
  4. Perform inspections and measurements of product dimensions using basic Quality Control measuring tools, probing routines, calipers, micrometer, depth gauges, and other measuring equipment.
  5. Able to program, set up, and operate 3 axis, 5 axis mills and live tooling lathes to create complex aircraft components, fixtures, and tooling, from rough stock to finished part.

Skills

Required

  • High School Diploma or GED Equivalent
  • 5-7 Years experience as a Programmer with prior or combined machinist experience
  • Ability to program and machine using Fusion 360 CAM software in 3, 5 axis milling and live tooling lathe CNC
  • Proficient in GD&T and ability to read blueprints and other design documents as well as interpret verbal design instructions
  • Knowledgeable about integrated probing systems
  • Knowledgeable in a variety of materials and fundamental concepts of machining techniques and mechanics
  • Assembly experience and working knowledge of basic fasteners and hand tools

Nice to have

  • 10-15 years experience as a Programmer
  • 15-20 years experience as a Machinist
  • Fusion 360, HSM Works, MasterCAM
  • Experience in a fast paced, high variety machine shop environment
  • Able to use a manual CMM
  • Experience with Polyworks or PC-DMIS
  • Experience with Lang or similar zero point workholding
  • Experience with Dassault Systemes Catia
  • Proficiency in FUSION 360 5-axis programming
  • Experience with company chat systems such as Slack and Microsoft Teams
  • Experience with planning and job ticketing softwares such as Jira
