This role is for a Sr. Compliance Specialist within AWS Global Trade & Product Compliance (GTPC) to develop and oversee the team's strategy for regulatory compliance matters. The specialist will interact with various internal and external stakeholders to drive operational policies and controls, ensuring AWS infrastructure equipment is imported/exported compliantly across operating countries. Key responsibilities include owning governance controls, SOPs, policy frameworks, defining and executing regulatory research methodologies, operationalizing engagement protocols with government contacts, enforcing records retention controls, and synthesizing compliance data to surface emerging risks. The role focuses on market access and clearing the path for AWS to ship hardware into new and existing markets.

What you'd actually do

  1. Own end-to-end governance controls, SOPs, and policy frameworks across Regulatory Operations — regulatory research, intelligence management, agency engagement, change monitoring, records management, and compliance auditing.
  2. Define and execute a scalable regulatory research methodology at country and product level across all target markets.
  3. Operationalize engagement protocols and stakeholder maps for government contacts across all jurisdictions.
  4. Enforce records retention controls satisfying post-deployment audit requirements.
  5. Synthesize compliance data and regulatory intelligence to surface emerging risks before they materialize.

Skills

Required

  • 7+ years of compliance, audit or risk management experience
  • 8+ years of regulatory frameworks and policy analysis methodologies experience
  • 10+ years of working directly with government officials and regulatory bodies experience
  • Experience building cross-functional partnerships and influencing stakeholders across the organization to act without having a direct reporting relationship
  • 5+ years building and operating compliance controls, SOPs, and governance frameworks that have withstood regulatory audit scrutiny across international markets
  • Bachelor's degree in regulatory affairs, public policy, international trade, engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience)

Nice to have

  • Experience implementing scalable compliance solutions (technology, procedures, processes, etc.) in a regulated environment
  • Experience in data center, networking engineering, systems engineering or construction management with a good understanding of data center technologies such as power, cooling and controls systems
