Sr Dir, Content Analytics - Cnn Digital Product and Services

This role leads a team of data analysts and data scientists to analyze audience and engagement trends for CNN Digital. The goal is to guide product and editorial decision-making through behavioral, quantitative, and qualitative data analysis, informing content strategy and driving engagement for streaming products. The role involves developing methodologies for content performance assessment, creating self-serve tools for the newsroom, and partnering with various teams to ensure data quality and actionable insights.

What you'd actually do

  1. Develop comprehensive methodologies to assess performance of individual pieces of content compared to expectations
  2. Deeply understand, measure, and explain the news cycle, providing assessments of content and overall digital performance relative the news cycle of the day
  3. Support the growth and deepening of audience engagement for content delivered via streaming products and produce best-in-class insights with tangible opportunities for editorial teams to act on
  4. Inform long-term content strategy through deep analytics and modeling synthesized with research
  5. Drive the development self-serve tools for the newsroom to be able to quickly understand performance and inform real-time decisions for coverage and content promotion

Skills

Required

  • 10+ years of experience in data/analytics or related field
  • 3+ years of experience managing and building an analytics team
  • Experience with BI tools (e.g. Looker, Domo, Tableau, etc.)
  • Significant experience using SQL to explore and analyze large data sets in cloud environments
  • Experience with providing data requirements while working with structured and unstructured data sets
  • Experience with digital news, streaming content or relevant digital analytics experience plus strong interest in news

Nice to have

  • BA/BS degree or higher in Math/Stats, Operations Research, Computer Science, Engineering, or other related quantitative field
  • Industry knowledge of digital streaming services and how to approach them with an analytical lens strongly preferred
  • Experience working with editorial teams
  • Strong background in experimentation and statistics
  • Experience with writing Python and R scripts
