This role is for a Sr. Director of US & Global Government Affairs for DePuy Synthes, an orthopedics company. The position focuses on shaping public policy, engaging with government stakeholders, and representing the company in external forums to support innovation, patient access, and business growth. It requires a strong understanding of healthcare and medical device policy environments and experience with regulatory advocacy.

What you'd actually do

  1. Lead and execute the U.S. and global government affairs strategy aligned to DePuy Synthes business priorities and long‑term growth objectives.
  2. Monitor, analyze, and influence legislative, regulatory, and policy developments affecting orthopedics, medical devices, and healthcare systems globally.
  3. Build and maintain senior‑level relationships with policymakers, regulators, trade associations, and other external stakeholders.
  4. Partner closely with Legal, Compliance, Communications, Market Access, and Commercial leaders to ensure aligned policy positions and compliant advocacy activities.
  5. Develop policy positions, advocacy materials, and executive briefings for internal and external audiences.

Skills

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Public Policy, Political Science, Law, International Relations, or related field
  • 12+ years of progressive experience in government affairs, public policy, or regulatory advocacy, including leadership roles
  • Demonstrated experience engaging with U.S. federal policymakers and global regulatory or governmental bodies
  • Strong understanding of healthcare, medical device, or life sciences policy environments

Nice to have

  • Advanced degree (JD, Master’s, or MBA)
  • Experience supporting global or multinational organizations with regulated products
  • Prior experience working in government, on Capitol Hill, or within relevant regulatory agencies
  • Experience leading teams and managing external consultants or trade associations
  • Ability to translate complex policy issues into clear business implications and recommendations
  • Proven ability to develop and execute complex advocacy strategies in a matrixed organization
  • Excellent executive-level communication, influence, and stakeholder management skills
