Johnson & Johnson announced plans to separate our Orthopedics business to establish a standalone orthopedics company, operating as DePuy Synthes. The process of the planned separation is anticipated to be completed within 18 to 24 months, subject to legal requirements, including consultation with works councils and other employee representative bodies, as may be required, regulatory approvals and other customary conditions and approvals. Job Overview
This role provides senior leadership for U.S. and global government affairs strategy for DePuy Synthes, shaping public policy positions that support innovation, patient access, and business growth across the orthopedics portfolio. The Sr. Director will serve as a trusted advisor to enterprise and business leadership, lead engagement with government and policy stakeholders, and represent DePuy Synthes in key external forums. This is a highly visible role with direct impact on policy outcomes, reputation, and long‑term strategy in a dynamic global regulatory and political environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and execute the U.S. and global government affairs strategy aligned to DePuy Synthes business priorities and long‑term growth objectives.
- Monitor, analyze, and influence legislative, regulatory, and policy developments affecting orthopedics, medical devices, and healthcare systems globally.
- Build and maintain senior‑level relationships with policymakers, regulators, trade associations, and other external stakeholders.
- Partner closely with Legal, Compliance, Communications, Market Access, and Commercial leaders to ensure aligned policy positions and compliant advocacy activities.
- Develop policy positions, advocacy materials, and executive briefings for internal and external audiences.
- Represent DePuy Synthes in industry coalitions, public forums, and policy discussions to advance enterprise interests.
- Lead, mentor, and develop government affairs team members and external advisors to deliver high‑impact outcomes.
- Ensure activities are conducted in accordance with Johnson & Johnson Credo values, ethics, and all applicable laws and regulations.
Qualifications
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree required (Public Policy, Political Science, Law, International Relations, or related field).
- Advanced degree (JD, Master’s, or MBA) preferred.
Experience and Skills:
Required:
- Typically 12+ years of progressive experience in government affairs, public policy, or regulatory advocacy, including leadership roles.
- Demonstrated experience engaging with U.S. federal policymakers and global regulatory or governmental bodies.
- Strong understanding of healthcare, medical device, or life sciences policy environments.
Preferred:
- Experience supporting global or multinational organizations with regulated products.
- Prior experience working in government, on Capitol Hill, or within relevant regulatory agencies.
- Experience leading teams and managing external consultants or trade associations.
- Ability to translate complex policy issues into clear business implications and recommendations.
- Proven ability to develop and execute complex advocacy strategies in a matrixed organization.
- Excellent executive‑level communication, influence, and stakeholder management skills.
Other:
- Language requirements: English required; additional languages a plus.
- Travel: Up to 20–30%, including domestic and limited international travel.

The anticipated base pay range for this position is :
$178,000.00 - $307,050.00
Additional Description for Pay Transparency:
Subject to the terms of their respective plans, employees are eligible to participate in the Company’s consolidated retirement plan (pension) and savings plan (401(k)).
This position is eligible to participate in the Company’s long-term incentive program.
Subject to the terms of their respective policies and date of hire, employees are eligible for the following time off benefits:
Vacation –120 hours per calendar year
Sick time - 40 hours per calendar year; for employees who reside in the State of Colorado –48 hours per calendar year; for employees who reside in the State of Washington –56 hours per calendar year
Holiday pay, including Floating Holidays –13 days per calendar year
Work, Personal and Family Time - up to 40 hours per calendar year
Parental Leave – 480 hours within one year of the birth/adoption/foster care of a child
Bereavement Leave – 240 hours for an immediate family member: 40 hours for an extended family member per calendar year
Caregiver Leave – 80 hours in a 52-week rolling period10 days
