Sr Engineer, Automation Applications/surgical Robotics - Ottava

Johnson & Johnson Johnson & Johnson · Pharma · Santa Clara, CA +1

Seeking a Senior Engineer to architect, develop, and deploy scalable automation solutions for manufacturing operations, including robotic cells, AMRs, and IoT-enabled workflows. The role involves end-to-end delivery from concept to commissioning, system design, integration of hardware/software, machine safety, and OT/IIoT connectivity. Experience with industrial robots, PLCs, and regulated industries is required.

What you'd actually do

  1. Own end-to-end delivery of automation solutions from concept through commissioning and handover (FAT/SAT, IQ/OQ where applicable, run-at-rate).
  2. Architect and implement semi-automated to fully automated robotic solutions, including X-Y Cartesian systems, robotic cells, EOAT, vision-guided assembly, smart workstations for digital workers, and autonomous mobile robots (AMRs).
  3. Define functional specifications, URS/FRS, test plans, acceptance criteria, and commissioning documentation.
  4. Lead system design reviews and provide technical direction to internal teams and integrators; ensure modular, scalable, maintainable designs.
  5. Specify, integrate, and validate hardware and software: robots, PLCs, HMIs, safety controllers, vision systems, sensors, actuators, and industrial networks.
