This role is for a Sr. Lead Counsel, Public Sector at CrowdStrike, a cybersecurity company. The individual will be the primary legal advisor to the Public Sector Sales organization, focusing on government contracting and software licensing for cloud-based and SaaS providers. Responsibilities include drafting and negotiating agreements, supporting opportunity qualification, assessing legal and business risks, and advising internal teams on contractual and regulatory compliance. The role requires a Juris Doctor degree, active bar admission, and 7-12+ years of experience in government contracting, particularly with technology companies. Familiarity with cybersecurity regulations impacting public sector customers is a plus.

What you'd actually do

  1. Lead and manage the Public Sector sale-side legal function, including mentoring and developing attorneys and/or contracts professionals as the business scales.
  2. Draft, negotiate, revise, and review a wide variety of agreements, including federal, state, local, and commercial contracts; SaaS agreements; partner and reseller agreements; teaming agreements; NDAs; professional services agreements; statements of work; and subcontract agreements.
  3. Support opportunity qualification and pursuit by reviewing RFIs, RFQs, solicitations, and proposal materials, including representations and certifications, OCI disclosures, and other compliance requirements.
  4. Assess, communicate, and help resolve legal and business risks associated with public sector transactions, including deviations from standard commercial or government terms.
  5. Identify contractual, regulatory, or operational issues that are inconsistent with company processes, offerings, or risk tolerance, and drive resolution in collaboration with internal stakeholders within and outside of the Legal Department.

Skills

Required

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited U.S. law school.
  • Active admission to at least one U.S. state bar.
  • 7–12+ years of progressively responsible experience in federal, state, and local government contracting, particularly commercial item acquisitions, with technology companies offering cloud-based software or SaaS solutions and associated professional services.
  • Excellent knowledge of U.S. public sector procurement laws, regulations, and procedures, including FAR, DFARS, agency-specific supplements, applicable state and local laws, and commercial contracting principles.
  • Strong experience with public sector contracting vehicles such as GWACs, IDIQs, BPAs, BOAs, and similar arrangements.
  • Experience supporting public sector resellers, system integrators, and other channel partners.
  • Proven ability to negotiate and manage large, complex product and services agreements from opportunity qualification through execution and post-award support.
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills, with the ability to advise and influence senior business stakeholders.
  • Sound judgment and the ability to balance legal risk with business objectives in a fast-paced, sales-driven environment.
  • Ability to manage multiple competing priorities with a “roll up your sleeves” attitude, and a collaborative mindset.

Nice to have

  • Experience in cybersecurity, cloud computing, or high-growth technology environments.
  • Familiarity with cybersecurity and data security regulations impacting public sector customers (e.g., DFARS 252.204-7012, NIST SP 800-171, FedRAMP, DISA SRG, etc.).
  • Experience supporting DISA/FedRAMP-authorized or DISA/FedRAMP-in-process cloud offerings.
  • Experience monitoring and supporting compliance with contractual, statutory, and regulatory obligations under government contracts, schedules, and public sector sales programs.
