Sr Lead Infrastructure Engineer — Hyper-v Virtualization & Infrastructure Engineering

JPMorgan Chase JPMorgan Chase · Banking · San Francisco, CA +1 · Corporate Sector

Senior Lead Infrastructure Engineer focused on Hyper-V virtualization and infrastructure engineering for enterprise-scale Microsoft Hyper-V infrastructure across global data centers. The role involves architecting, automating, developing custom platforms, benchmarking, troubleshooting, hardening, documenting, and mentoring. A key aspect is the use and validation of enterprise-authorized AI capabilities to support infrastructure workflows and accelerate analysis.

What you'd actually do

  1. Architect Hyper-V cluster designs across global pools, including WSFC, live migration, S2D, and vSwitch/SET topologies.
  2. Automate provisioning, configuration, patching, compliance enforcement, and decommissioning using PowerShell, DSC, and platform APIs.
  3. Develop and enhance a custom C#/.NET 8 workload management platform to scale operational workflows and orchestration.
  4. Benchmark compute and storage performance using industry-standard tooling to validate changes and guide capacity decisions.
  5. Diagnose full-stack issues across compute, storage, networking, clustering, and hypervisor layers using structured troubleshooting methods.

Skills

Required

  • Formal training or certification in infrastructure disciplines
  • 5+ years of relevant hands-on experience in enterprise or large-scale environments
  • Deep expertise in Microsoft Hyper-V at scale, including WSFC, live migration, S2D, and virtual networking (vSwitch/SET)
  • Strong PowerShell skills for automation, operational tooling, and configuration management
  • Demonstrated experience performing full-stack performance auditing across compute, storage, networking, and hypervisor layers
  • Proven ability to analyze and optimize storage performance in virtualized environments (throughput, latency, IOPS, queueing)
  • Experience with data-center-scale automation/configuration tooling (e.g., DSC, SCCM, Ansible, or equivalent)
  • Ability to plan and deliver production changes with disciplined risk management, including zero-downtime upgrade strategies
  • Working proficiency in C#/.NET (or equivalent) to maintain and extend automation/orchestration services
  • Experience building or operating CI/CD pipelines and automated testing for infrastructure automation artifacts
  • Demonstrated experience using enterprise-authorized AI capabilities within the work environment to support infrastructure engineering workflows with strong validation habits and awareness of data sensitivity
  • Ability to review and validate AI-assisted recommendations before implementation, escalating when uncertain and ensuring outcomes align to resiliency, security, and auditability expectations

Nice to have

  • Experience operating dual-hypervisor environments (e.g., VMware ESXi and/or KVM in addition to Hyper-V)
  • Strong server hardware fluency (Intel Xeon, AMD EPYC, NVMe, GPU) and comfort translating workload needs into platform requirements
  • Hands-on experience with advanced virtual networking concepts (VLANs, SDN, teaming/SET, load balancing patterns)
  • Experience with Microsoft System Center tooling (e.g., VMM, SCOM, SCCM) in large environments
  • Familiarity with vulnerability remediation workflows (e.g., Qualys) and baseline enforcement at scale
  • Practical performance tooling experience (e.g., elbencho, VMFleet, diskspd, fio) for repeatable benchmarking
