Senior Principal Design Engineer responsible for owning the design of solid rocket motor nozzles, managing other design engineers, and developing creative solutions that balance technical, cost, and schedule requirements. The role involves technical leadership, defining work scope, providing drawings and specifications, conducting trade studies, qualifying design changes, and providing technical guidance throughout the design, test, and production phases. Interaction with various development teams and customers is expected, along with anomaly resolution and participation in postfire evaluations.

Skills

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in STEM with 8 years of professional experience – OR – Master’s degree with 6 years of professional experience – OR – PhD with 4 years of professional experience.
  • Strong skills in 3D modeling, mechanical drawings, and GD&T (NX software)

Nice to have

  • Previous demonstration of technical leadership, mentoring and task management
  • Previous nozzle design, rocket motor design, or aerospace design experience
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills
  • Understanding of manufacturing and inspection processes
  • Design or analysis experience with bolted joints, metal, composite, and bonded assemblies
  • Tolerance analysis
  • Broad understanding of mechanical design, structural/thermal analysis and material behavior
