Sr. Principal Engineer Electronics – Mission Processing

This role is for a Sr. Principal Engineer Electronics focusing on Mission Processing at Northrop Grumman. The engineer will be responsible for the definition, design, integration, testing, and certification of hardware and software requirements for mission processing systems, displays, data storage, networks, and crypto. Key responsibilities include interpreting and flowing down requirements, designing system architectures, performing hardware integration and testing, managing suppliers, and conducting technical evaluations. The role requires a strong background in systems engineering, model-based systems engineering, and supplier management, with a Top Secret clearance required.

What you'd actually do

  1. Document designs using detailed schematics, diagrams and specifications
  2. Collaborate with engineers and program stakeholders to integrate mission management subsystems to meet platform mission objectives
  3. Technical management of program strategic partners and suppliers, including development, acquisition, acceptance, qualification, system integration and test support
  4. Developing supplier documentation, performance-based specifications, and statements of work
  5. Building supplier evaluation criteria and experience in conducting technical evaluations, documenting results and selection

Skills

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in STEM and 8 years of experience, or Master’s degree in STEM and 6 years of experience
  • Experience developing model-based systems engineering products and/or Mission Engineering in Cameo or similar tools
  • Experience in supplier/subcontract management
  • Experience with developing supplier documentation, performance-based specifications, and statements of work
  • Experience building supplier evaluation criteria and experience in conducting technical evaluations, documenting results and selection
  • Ability to review documents from the supplier’s development effort and support supplier technical interchange meetings and design review
  • Ability to transfer and maintain the final adjudicated government Top-Secret clearance, and any program access required for the position within a reasonable period of time

Nice to have

  • Familiarity with network, commercial cloud, platform infrastructures and containerized software architecture
  • Familiarity with Digital Engineering processes and environments
  • Knowledge of system engineering design methods, including requirements analysis and flow-down, specification derivation and interface control documentation
  • Demonstrated strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated problem solving and troubleshooting skills
  • Demonstrated ability to assimilate new concepts quickly and independently
  • Experience in model-based systems engineering using Cameo or similar SysML tools
  • Familiarity with Atlassian collaboration tool set (Jira and Confluence)
  • Experience AND/OR Certification with cloud and container management & security technologies such as VMWare, AWS, Azure, Google Cloud, Docker, Redhat OpenShift
