Northrop Grumman is seeking an EMI/C Systems Design/Test Engineer in Redondo Beach, CA. This role involves ensuring complete compliance from component to system level, including EMI/C testing, design, and technical, cost, and schedule performance. Responsibilities include tailoring test requirements, designing models for interference coupling and shielding, performing EMI/EMC testing and analysis, developing specialized test apparatus, and processing test data. Requires a Bachelor's or Master's degree in a STEM field with significant experience in EMI/C testing and knowledge of relevant military and commercial standards. A Top Secret clearance is required.

What you'd actually do

  1. Reviews and tailors EMI/C test requirements to meet specified product and system performance for all aspects of Electromagnetic Environmental Effects (E3) compliance;
  2. Develops/designs models for interference coupling mechanisms, shielding integrity, and circuit/cable interface isolation to mitigate and control conducted/radiated emissions and susceptibility stimuli;
  3. Performs EMI/EMC testing, analyzing, mitigating and troubleshooting from components to systems level;
  4. Designs and develops unique/specialize/ efficient test apparatus and testing methodology related to EMI/C and RF electrical testing;
  5. Develops work Instructions of mechanical and/or electromechanical systems, instruments and/or controls;

Skills

Required

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology or other closely related STEM discipline plus 10 years of relevant experience OR Master's degree or higher in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology or other closely related STEM discipline plus 8 years of relevant experience
  • Technical knowledge of product and systems EMI/C test qualification, engineering, evaluation, analyzing and testing
  • Practical hands-on experience in performing emissions and immunity testing to the applicable specifications
  • Thorough working knowledge of MIL-STD’s 461/462/464/704 and Commercial Standards (RTCA-DO-160s, FCC, EN & IEC)
  • Experience with EMI/C RF and lab test equipment including and not limited to Spectrum analyzers, oscilloscopes, data acquisition systems, signal/pulse generators, Network analyzers, RF generators/monitors/antennas
  • Experience in electromechanical design and fabrication of EMI/C test aids and other RF electrical tests
  • Experience with EMI/C emissions/susceptibility test software, MATLAB, Mathcad and other related programming languages
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project, Outlook, and Visio
  • Ability to obtain and maintain Top Secret Clearance

  • In–depth experience with EMI/C testing, evaluation, mitigation and troubleshooting
  • Strong background in designing/developing/improving efficient testing methodology related EMI/C testing and RF electrical testing
  • Experience in HIRF and indirect Lightning testing
  • Proficient with TILE EMI/C testing software and other related EMI/C application software
  • Experience with Vacuum chamber automation control and operations
  • Strong background in designing, customizing and fabricating complex test fixture/equipment related to EMI/C and RF electrical testing
  • Experience with Labview, MATLAB
