This role is for a Senior Principal Manufacturing Engineer at Northrop Grumman, focusing on designing and optimizing manufacturing processes, procedures, and production layouts for assemblies and equipment. The engineer will be responsible for machine arrangement, fabrication sequences, adapting designs to production conditions, incorporating inspection and test requirements, and ensuring process compliance with regulations. A key requirement is an active US Government Secret security clearance.

What you'd actually do

  1. Designs manufacturing processes, procedures and production layouts for assemblies, equipment installation, processing, machining and material handling.
  2. Designs arrangement of machines within plant facilities to ensure most efficient and productive layout.
  3. Designs sequence of operations and specifies procedures for the fabrication of tools and equipment and other functions that affect product performance.
  4. Adapts machine or equipment design to factory and production conditions.
  5. May incorporate inspection and test requirements into the production plans.

Skills

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree with 8 years of professional experience – OR – Master’s degree with 6 years of professional experience
  • active US Government Secret (or above) security clearance
  • Experienced in creating, supporting & sustaining the use of Manufacturing Engineering System (MES) work instructions
  • Proficient in DFM
  • Experience with manufacturing processes, procedures work cell layout, production build sequence, tooling design, troubleshooting/corrective action, and quality assurance.
  • Experience adapting machine or equipment design to factory and production conditions
  • Familiarity working with CAD, NX, Costpoint and Teamcenter

Nice to have

  • A Bachelors degree in Mechanical, Industrial or Manufacturing Engineering
  • Familiarity with Northrop Grumman processes
