Sr. Principal Pwb Design Engineer

Northrop Grumman Northrop Grumman · Aerospace · Rolling Meadows, IL +3 · Systems/Architecture/Test

Northrop Grumman is seeking a Sr. Principal PWB Design Engineer to plan, lay out, draw, and revise parts, assemblies, and fabrication engineering drawings for Printed Wiring Boards (PWBs) using computer-aided design tools like Cadence Allegro. The role involves calculating layer stack-ups, creating fabrication outputs, and interfacing with electrical and mechanical engineers to ensure proper component placement and routing for various circuit board types. The engineer will also incorporate change notices, check designs for manufacturability, and lead design reviews. A Bachelor's degree in STEM with 8 years of experience or equivalent is required, along with experience in PCB design for fabrication and PWB layer stack-up for digital, RF, mixed signal, and power supply CCAs, and knowledge of DFM rules. A Secret security clearance is required.

What you'd actually do

  1. Layout of PWBs/PCBs, flex circuits, interconnect routing, and drawing generation
  2. Calculates layer stack-up based on industry standards, supplier capabilities, and engineering requirements
  3. Creates and documents the required electronic data file outputs for fabrication and manufacturing
  4. Responsible to interface with electrical and mechanical engineers to work through component placement, routing, mechanical fitment for rigid, flex, and rigid-flex assemblies
  5. Understands technical theories of electrical and mechanical behavior of PWBs/PCBs to influence layout decisions (i.e. impedance matching, differential pairs, strains and stresses, orientation of components, etc.)
