This role is for a Sr. R&D Technician at Johnson & Johnson's Shockwave Medical division, focusing on the development of medical devices for cardiovascular diseases. The technician will be involved in prototyping, fabrication, testing, and supporting product development from concept to commercialization, working closely with R&D engineers. Key responsibilities include assembling prototypes, assisting with design and optimization, performing testing and root cause analysis, and supporting the transfer to manufacturing. The role requires a High School Diploma with 5 years of relevant experience or an Associate's degree with 3 years of experience in the medical device industry, familiarity with GMP/GDP, and problem-solving skills.

What you'd actually do

  1. Effectively works on multiple project tasks with minimal supervision for timely completion
  2. Partners with engineers and other technicians to assemble functional prototypes and provide feedback on assembly process and design
  3. Assist engineers with product and process design, development, and optimization
  4. Perform equipment installation and qualification
  5. Assist in product and process characterization and design verification testing

Skills

Required

  • High School Diploma required with a minimum of 5 years’ experience as an R&D technician (or relevant experience) in the medical device industry or Associate’s degree with 3 years’ experience in the medical device industry
  • Familiar with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), Good Documentation Practices (GDP) and laboratory practices
  • Ability to analyze and solve problems
  • Experience using sketches, CAD, etc. to supports the design and build of simple fixtures
  • Proficient with MS Office
  • Comfortable working in a clean room environment
  • Ability to communicate effectively with all cross-functional team members
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while managing multiple priorities
  • Operate as a team and/or independently while demonstrating flexibility to changing requirements.

Nice to have

  • Balloon catheter, drug coating, valve or other cardiovascular medical devices development is preferred
