Sr. Risk Manager - Incentive Compensation

This role is for a Sr. Risk Manager focused on Incentive Compensation within Capital One's Enterprise Risk Management organization. The primary responsibilities include providing independent oversight, monitoring, and effective challenge of incentive compensation programs to ensure they balance performance and risk. This involves conducting risk assessments, backtesting plans, identifying covered associates, designing and monitoring risk performance goals, and reporting insights to senior management. The role also supports compliance with regulatory guidance and partners with business units to implement risk mitigation strategies and controls. The position requires experience in incentive risk management and compensation design within the financial services industry.

What you'd actually do

  1. Support Capital One’s compliance with the Interagency Guidance on Sound Incentive Compensation Policies.
  2. Maintain oversight of incentive-related risks across all incentive compensation programs, ensuring alignment with governance standards, risk appetite, and regulatory expectations.
  3. Provide independent risk advisory and challenge of incentive compensation plans throughout the plan lifecycle.
  4. Conduct detailed risk assessments to identify emerging risks, trends, and potential areas of exposure, including within the design and structure of international incentive plans.
  5. Partner with the first line of defense and Human Resources to develop and implement mitigation plans, ensuring that identified risks are appropriately addressed and controls are effective.

Skills

Required

  • High School Diploma, GED or equivalent certification
  • At least 5 years of experience in incentive risk management within the financial services industry
  • At least 5 years of experience in incentive compensation or executive compensation design, governance, and risk assessment

Nice to have

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Risk Management, or Military Experience
  • Experience with regulatory guidance related to incentive compensation (i.e., Interagency Guidance on Sound Incentive Compensation Policies), including international compensation guidelines
  • Experience partnering with senior executives and influencing decision-making
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with experience presenting to senior leadership
  • Demonstrated experience collaborating across teams, problem solving, and streamlining complex processes, with strong attention to detail
