Sr. Scientist - Lab Automation Scientist

Eli Lilly Eli Lilly · Pharma · San Diego, CA

This role focuses on operating, maintaining, and advancing lab automation equipment and robotic systems in a biopharmaceutical discovery setting. The goal is to support early-stage discovery and screening of protein therapeutics by improving laboratory workflows and digitalization, with a vision towards autonomous discovery systems.

What you'd actually do

  1. Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot lab automation equipment used in biotherapeutic discovery, including stand-alone liquid handlers, micro-dispensers, plate readers and washers, protein quantification instruments, colony/plaque pickers, sequencing instruments, and a fleet of diverse fully integrated robotic systems.
  2. Work alongside automation engineers on day-to-day instrument and robotic platform upkeep, reliability, operational scripting, and scheduling software.
  3. Collaborate with protein discovery, engineering, and protein expression groups at the San Diego site to support and improve automation-driven research workflows.
  4. Contribute to the design, implementation, and validation of new automation equipment, integrated robotic workstations, and lab digitalization technologies in partnership with vendors and internal teams.
