Northrop Grumman Space Systems is seeking a Program Deputy Chief Engineer to lead a mature operational space program. This role involves system definition, technical planning, and execution, supporting on-orbit vehicles, integrating new capabilities, and shaping future system architectures. The position requires strong leadership of engineering teams, customer relationship management, and ensuring adherence to engineering and configuration management processes. The candidate will be the prime technical spokesperson and expert in Systems Engineering.

What you'd actually do

  1. Developing and maintaining a strong PMO and customer relationship to ensure that all stakeholder needs, goals and objectives are taken into account.
  2. Leading a multi-disciplined engineering team and manages the technical performance of the program including cost and schedule requirements for both internal work and subcontracted elements.
  3. Coordinating engineering responses to issues, anomalies or changes in customer direction within the on-orbit fleet
  4. Ensuring that the program is adhering to sound engineering and configuration management processes in the development, production, test, and sustainment of products for our customers and is compliance with company policies, procedures, and quality standards.
  5. Maintaining cognizance over technical activities within programs operations and sustainment scope while ensuring horizontal integration of the best engineering practices across the company.

Skills

Required

  • BS in Engineering or related technical field & 14 years’ experience, or Masters Degree & 12 years’ experience, or Ph.D. & 10 years’ experience
  • Systems engineering experience, to include: architectural studies, mission architecture and tactics, technical baseline definition, requirements & interface management, hardware/software integration, test planning & execution and system sustainment and on orbit operations.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required, for both up-and-out communication to executive leadership and the customer, and for down-and-in detailed technical guidance to the program team

Nice to have

  • Prior experience leading a large, collaborative, multi-disciplinary, cross-site team
  • Understanding of ground segment software and mission planning tools development, configuration management and deployment processes
  • Technical Leadership experience on space-based systems with space, ground, launch and segments
  • Understanding of GEO based space domain awareness including customer high level needs, goals and objectives
  • Experience and/or training in Earned Value Management Systems
