Sr. Test Technician Ii, Powertrain

Rivian Rivian · Auto · Tustin, CA · Mechanical & Electrical Engineering

This role is for a Sr. Test Technician II in Powertrain at Rivian, focusing on operating and maintaining dynamometer and associated test systems for electrified powertrain development and validation. Responsibilities include test setup, instrumentation, troubleshooting, repair, and documentation of test operations. The role requires hands-on experience with test cells, electrified vehicles, and powertrain systems, with a strong emphasis on safety and collaboration with engineering teams.

What you'd actually do

  1. Operate and maintain large dynamometers for vehicle- and powertrain-level testing.
  2. Build and set up test rigs and dynamometers for mechanical and/or electrical tests in collaboration with Powertrain, NVH, and Thermal engineering teams.
  3. Select, install, and verify instrumentation needed to collect response data from products under test (e.g., accelerometers, strain gauges, pressure sensors, thermocouples, thermistors, hygrometers, voltage drop sense leads).
  4. Perform first-line fault finding and diagnosis for operational issues that arise on systems under test and associated test equipment.
  5. Perform routine maintenance as well as complex mechanical and electrical repairs on test rigs, dynos, and related systems.
