Staff Backend Product Software Engineer for Dropbox's Commerce Platform, focusing on building and evolving systems that power monetization across all sales motions. Responsibilities include owning and influencing systems spanning CRM, CPQ, Billing, and their integrations, driving improvements in platform architecture, system simplification, and data consistency. The role involves technical strategy, modernization, reliability measurement, and evaluating tradeoffs between business needs and platform health, operating at the intersection of engineering, Sales, and Finance.

What you'd actually do

  1. Design and evolve scalable backend systems that power Dropbox’s Commerce Platform, including CRM, CPQ, Billing, provisioning, and related data workflows.
  2. Define and drive technical strategy for complex, highly customized systems, balancing short-term delivery with long-term platform scalability and reliability.
  3. Lead efforts to simplify legacy architectures, reduce system fragmentation, and build generalized, product-agnostic solutions.
  4. Own end-to-end reliability of revenue-critical systems, including validation, rollout safety, monitoring, and incident response.
  5. Partner cross-functionally with Engineering, Sales, Finance, and GTM teams to translate business requirements into durable technical solutions.

Skills

Required

  • BS, MS, or PhD in Computer Science or a related technical field involving programming (e.g., Computer Engineering), or equivalent practical experience.
  • 12+ years of professional software development experience.
  • Proven expertise in building and maintaining large-scale, distributed backend systems.
  • Strong system design skills, particularly in complex, stateful, or workflow-driven systems
  • Experience building reliable systems with a focus on validation, rollout safety, monitoring, and maintainability
  • Experience working on systems in a monetary domain such as ecommerce, subscriptions, billing, payments, or financial systems
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, with experience influencing cross-functional stakeholders

Nice to have

  • Experience with CRM, CPQ, Billing, ecommerce, or similar enterprise workflow platforms (e.g., Salesforce)
  • Track record of simplifying or modernizing legacy systems into scalable, maintainable architectures
