This role is for a Staff Cost Value Engineer responsible for strategic supply network development and cost management of product hardware throughout its lifecycle, collaborating with suppliers and internal teams. The role involves supplier selection, product development support, BOM management, CAPEX management, value-stream mapping, BOM risk assessment, component qualification, complexity reduction, and cost engineering activities. It requires extensive experience in sourcing engineering, supplier engagement, and design of electronics/mechanical devices, with a focus on cost optimization and TCO across the product lifecycle.

What you'd actually do

  1. Conduct supplier selection for a specific product, leveraging our approved supplier list
  2. Partner with strategic suppliers to accelerate product development via activities such as:
  3. Drive the development and consolidation of a manufacturing BOM, working with Quality & Manufacturing, to ramp production internally and with our suppliers with high flexibility
  4. Manage the CAPEX throughout NPI
  5. Conduct value-stream mapping to optimize supply network lead time and flexibility

Skills

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or other technical field
  • 10+ years of experience in sourcing engineering, supplier engagement and development, or design of electronics and/or mechanical devices
  • Experience leading large teams, creating impact across the broader organization outside of direct team scope, and mentoring junior members
  • Domain expertise of value/procurement engineering or TCO-related work at the component & product level
  • Ability to travel 10% - 40% of the time, variable based on program needs
  • Ability to relocate, if not already local to be onsite in Costa Mesa, CA

Nice to have

  • Master’s degree or advanced technical degree
  • 12+ years of experience in sourcing engineering, supplier engagement and development, or design of electronics and/or mechanical devices
  • Deeper experience within: Design & development of electronics and/or mechanical devices
  • Advanced sourcing activities, including stints as commodity/sourcing managers
  • Supplier development (technology, process, supply chain, etc.)
  • Early supplier engagement, ahead of product/engineering requirement realization
  • Familiarity with developing high-tech products in a high-mix, low-volume environment
  • Exposure to working in a fast-pace, start-up environment
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Top Secret security clearance
