Staff Electrical Engineer focused on the High Voltage (HV) Battery and Battery Management System (BMS) electrical architecture for electric vehicles. Responsibilities include leading design and development, defining key electrical elements, analyzing bus behavior, collaborating with controls engineers, and executing evaluations of the electrical roadmap.

What you'd actually do

  1. Own key parts of the HV Battery and BMS electrical architecture
  2. Lead design and development of the HV Battery and BMS electrical architecture across prototype and production‑intent packs, from proof of concept and requirements through analysis/simulation and validation.
  3. Define and refine key HV Battery/BMS elements: bus topology and protection, contactors/fuses/current sensors, precharge and HV protection schemes, sensing chains and isolation, and hooks needed for controls and diagnostics.
  4. Analyze and optimize HV bus behavior (capacitance, inductance, resistance) to control ripple, manage EMI/EMC, and ensure robust operation across operating modes and variants.
  5. Work with controls engineers to ensure the battery pack has the right signals, limits, and safety strategies for both prototyping and production algorithms.

Skills

Required

  • 7+ years of work experience in Battery/Automotive/Aerospace/related industries
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field
  • Strong fundamentals in analog and mixed‑signal design as applied to HV batteries: Voltage, current, and temperature sensing chains.
  • Signal conditioning, ADC considerations, noise and accuracy trade‑offs.
  • Working knowledge of BMS architectures: Cell monitoring ICs, pack monitoring ICs, isolation, in centralized or distributed topologies.
  • Communication paths (wired and wireless) between cell monitoring components and master controllers.
  • Practical experience with schematic capture and PCB design, including the ability to execute and/or review or guide placement/routing for HV and LV circuits.
  • Hands‑on experience with: Lab equipment (oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, power supplies, loads).
  • Hardware debug and root‑cause analysis in complex embedded systems.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently in ambiguous, fast‑moving environments while collaborating across SW, Systems, ME, Test, and suppliers.

Nice to have

  • Requirements and issue tracking tools (e.g., Jama/Flow, Jira).
  • Structured problem‑solving methods (Fishbone, 8D, FMEA concepts).
  • Clear design and test documentation.
  • Ability to lead or contribute to design reviews and cross‑functional discussions.
