GEICO GEICO · Insurance · Bethesda, MD +3

Staff Engineer role focused on capacity planning and management within GEICO's hybrid technology landscape. The role involves designing and implementing systems for cloud and on-prem capacity forecasting, workload analysis, and infrastructure demand planning. It requires collaboration with infrastructure, cloud, hardware procurement, and finance teams to ensure efficient and strategic provisioning of resources, aligning capacity forecasts with spend and budget expectations. The position also involves developing internal tools and APIs for capacity signals and managing quotas and subscriptions.

What you'd actually do

  1. Lead the design and implementation of systems that enable cloud and OnPrem capacity forecasting, including planning models to support application onboarding, expansion, and repatriation.
  2. Partner with application and infrastructure teams to analyze workload characteristics, optimize placement decisions, and reduce infrastructure waste through intelligent workload optimization strategies.
  3. Develop and support internal tools and APIs that provide real-time and forecasted capacity signals to hardware procurement, infrastructure owners, and finance partners.
  4. Design and build quota and subscription management solutions to enable fair, scalable consumption of shared infrastructure resources.
  5. Collaborate with Hardware Engineering to define data-driven signals that guide purchase decisions for greenfield and brownfield environments.
