Shield AI Shield AI · Defense · Dallas, TX · Production

Staff Engineer focused on industrial manufacturing systems, material flow, and factory layout for aerospace hardware production. Responsibilities include mapping current-state flow, designing 2D/3D layouts, running capacity analysis, defining material presentation, leading design reviews, and performing discrete-event simulations. Requires 7+ years of experience in factory layout/industrial engineering and a Bachelor's degree in a related engineering field, with experience in prototype manufacturing in a startup environment.

What you'd actually do

  1. Map current-state flow: cycle/takt times, operator walk paths, WIP, supermarkets/kitting strategies, replenishment loops.
  2. Produce detailed 2D layouts and 3D/VR models with utilities, rack placement, POUs, FIFO lanes, safety zones, and equipment footprints.
  3. Run capacity analysis, line balancing, buffer sizing, and kanban calculations.
  4. Define material presentation (kitting, bulk, sequencing) and packaging standards for mechanical/composite/electrical parts.
  5. Lead cross-functional layout design reviews with ME, IE, Quality, EHS, and Production.
