Northrop Grumman is seeking a Staff Engineer - Survivability to enhance the survivability of defense systems through advanced materials and processes, focusing on Radar Cross Section (RCS) Analysis and reducing detectability in the electromagnetic spectrum. The role involves developing predictive analysis codes, building physical models, designing test equipment, and integrating specialty materials into air-based systems.

What you'd actually do

  1. Develops and integrates advanced technology to reduce the detectability of aircraft in the electromagnetic spectrum
  2. Develops and implements predictive analysis codes; builds and tests physical models; designs, develops, and builds test and verification equipment; and develops, tests, and integrates specialty materials
  3. Works closely with engineers of other disciplines to optimize the integration of this technology on existing and future aircraft

Skills

Required

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM discipline and 12 years of related engineering experience; OR a Master’s degree in a STEM discipline and 10 years of related engineering experience; OR a PhD in a STEM discipline and 8 years of related engineering experience
  • Applied electromagnetics and/or aircraft survivability; or comprehensive understanding of electromagnetic energy transmission through space and within materials
  • Experience in one or more CAD software solutions such as CATIA, Unigraphics, or NX
  • Ability to transfer and maintain the final adjudicated U.S. Government Secret Security Clearance (must be in-scope or enrolled in Continuous Evaluation) and any program access(es) required for the position within a reasonable period of time, as determined by the Company.

Nice to have

  • Experience in signature integration, RCS design, analysis, and testing
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to use CAE and/or FEA tools (i.e. FMS, Patran, Cubit, etc.)
  • Proven experience with 3D Method of Moments (MoM) such as SENTRi and 3D Physical Optics (PO) codes such as Xpatch
  • Programming experience in C++, MATLAB, Python, or other highly technical languages
  • Knowledge and ability with RCS data processing tools, such as Knowbell, Saber, or Pioneer
  • An active U.S. Government issued Top Secret security clearance and/or previous SAP/SAR clearance
