Staff Image Quality Engineer

Johnson & Johnson Johnson & Johnson · Pharma · Santa Clara, CA +1

Staff Image Quality Engineer at Johnson & Johnson to tune ISP pipelines for robotic endoscopy, lead the development and implementation of objective and subjective image quality metrics and algorithms for camera pipelines, and own algorithm development, IQ evaluation methodology, and tuning validation.

What you'd actually do

  1. Own end-to-end ISP tuning for robotic endoscopy and drive tuning changes from concept through verification and release.
  2. Develop and prototype image processing algorithms for endoscopic video and work with cross-functional teams to implement and optimize them in the production pipeline.
  3. Define, implement, and maintain objective IQ metrics and KPIs aligned to product requirements.
  4. Build a repeatable subjective IQ evaluation and correlate subjective outcomes to objective measurements.
  5. Lead regular IQ reviews, communicate progress, risks, and tradeoffs to engineering leadership and program stakeholders.

Skills

Required

  • B.S. in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science/Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Imaging Science, or equivalent practical experience
  • 8+ years (or equivalent) experience tuning ISPs and delivering image quality improvements for camera products
  • Strong understanding of imaging fundamentals: optics, sensors (CMOS), noise sources, color science, and Image Signal Processing algorithms
  • Hands-on experience defining objective IQ metrics and designing subjective evaluations; demonstrated ability to correlate and reconcile the two
  • Proficiency with data analysis and scripting (C++ and Python preferred) and familiarity with IQ measurement tools and workflows
  • Practical experience with image processing libraries and workflows (e.g., OpenCV) and building visualization/dashboards to communicate IQ results
  • Strong cross-functional communication skills and experience collaborating with vendors/partners on camera modules, sensors, lenses, and calibration
  • Familiarity with Linux

Nice to have

  • Advanced Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science/Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Imaging Science, or equivalent practical experience
