Staff Mechanical Engineer (NPI) at WHOOP, a company focused on human performance and healthspan through biometric wearable products. The role involves leading the design, validation, and development of next-generation wearable products, from concept to manufacturing release. Responsibilities include mechanical design, CAD modeling, technical documentation, cross-functional collaboration, DFM coordination with vendors, supplier partnerships, testing, and root cause analysis. Requires extensive experience in consumer electronics mechanical design, CAD, CAE, working with contract manufacturers, and product launches. The role also involves mentorship and driving engineering best practices.

What you'd actually do

  1. Complete technical ownership (at system level) of a next generation product from design concept to manufacturing release, ensuring performance, reliability, cost, and schedule targets are met
  2. Lead mechanical design, analysis and development of mechanical components around micro-electronics, and exact industrial design visions and specifications, product requirements, and manufacturing constraints
  3. Create SolidWorks CAD models to bring up design concepts that enable simulation exercises, prototyping, and mass production qualification
  4. Generate technical documentation such as 3D files, 2D drawings, bills of material (BOM’s), and Engineering Change Orders (ECO’s) following product development cycle timeline
  5. Communicate and collaborate effectively across cross-functional teams to align requirements, drive decisions, and resolve issues quickly

Skills

Required

  • BS or MS in Mechanical Engineering or a related field
  • 10+ years of experience in the design, documentation and validation of complex mechanical parts for medium to high volume consumer electronics
  • 5+ years SolidWorks CAD experience with best practices for part design/ feature architecture, advanced assemblies, complex configuration management and integrating DFx feedback efficiently
  • 5+ years of experience implementing CAE tools in mechanical design process (Finite element analysis - Static and Dynamic and thermal simulation)
  • 5+ years of working with Tier 1 and 2 contract manufacturers in Asia and North America
  • Extensive experience in mechanical design concepts and the manufacture of products utilizing high volume, automated manufacturing processes as well as manual assembly
  • Played a key role in the launch of 3+ products, thorough understanding of full product development process, experience guiding suppliers, product lifecycle management
  • Well-versed in design, prototyping, and evaluation of advanced injection molded plastic components, die castings, metal injection molding, ceramic injection molding, packaging, and material selection
