Anduril Industries is a defense technology company seeking a Staff Optical Engineer to design and architect new product lines for spaceborne imaging systems. The role involves leading optical architecture decisions, designing lenses and components, analyzing performance, and transitioning prototypes to production. The engineer will work with interdisciplinary teams on computer vision, perception, and sensor data for military applications.

What you'd actually do

  1. Lead architecture decisions, optical trades for novel optical systems for broadly defined missions
  2. Design lenses and optical components for high performance imaging systems
  3. Understand and define optical performance requirements given multi-disciplinary engineering constraints
  4. Design and tolerance complex visible to infrared optical systems to meet performance requirements for ground & airborne applications
  5. Develop and review test setups, procedures, and data to transition products and systems from R&D to production

What the JD emphasized

  • BS in Engineering required
  • 7+ years of experience with complex opto-mechanical systems
  • Expertise with optical design and analysis software, preferably Zemax
  • Experience with STOP (Structural, Thermal, and Optical Performance) analysis
  • Knowledge of image quality metrics and data analysis methods
  • Experience with the design of diffraction limited imaging systems in dynamic environments
  • Eligible to obtain and maintain an active U.S. Secret security clearance
